xp and 2000 pro not compatible?

I run a small workgroup with 2000 and XP machines. It's my understanding that when you add all user logon accounts to all systems that they should be able to connect to eachother for file and print sharing. the 2000 systems do this. However, when attempting to go from the XP systems to the 2000 systems I keep having to authenticate. What am I doing wrong?

Is it XP pro or XP home?

it is xp pro. Actually I found a fix. I had to make a registry edit to shutdown forced logons. Thanks
