VB 5 won't install !!!!!

So i enter my cd key go though the menu Pick VB 5 go through the usual setup folder location, agree disagree then i get to the which version do i want to install. Standard compact or custom. I pic standard it blanks to a blue VB screen and then just sits there frozen. so i Ctrl+alt+del it and it say program not responding. I tried it with the custom and compact versions as well. No luck.
So then i give up and see if anything else will install. I pick fox pro. Boom. Installs no problem. so i think, WTF. Why does this install and not VB. If anyone can help me that would be great. I need to get this thing up and running soon so i can work on my school projects.

Thanks

what OS? installing it from a cd? even though it should just give you a read error, check the cd for any smudges. try it in another computer and if you have 2 cdroms, try it in the other.

Your school is teaching on VB5

Thats two generations behind!
What OS? Service pack?

As six mentioned, it could be a scratched cd. I'd consider maybe it was MSI borkign the install, but I dont' think MSI Installer existed back in the caveman days when it was popular

Hmm worst case scenario, try installing in safe mode *shrug*

What else is running when you're installing? maybe there is a file conflict, make sure there are no other apps running as they maybe using the VB5 libraries its trying to copy in.
