i bought a new monitor(syncmaster 172n) and i can only get 1280x1024/16m colors . the one thats in the comp. now is a intel 7402d/3d agp accellerator 2x agp i dont play to many games. i'm going to buy a new comp before to long but i thought i'd try this first i have a p 2/320megs ram xp pro.di di see some thing on this board about the phyiscal dem. are differant thanks for any suggestions merv

How much memory does the video have/use?

Minimum video memory = (Horizontal x Vertical x ColorDepth) / 8,388,608

^ is an equation to see how much video memory you need to run at a certain resolution and color depth.

Looks like you might only have 2-3MB of video memory.

evil rick thanks for the reply it says on my paperwork it has over 100mhz high speed sdram/sgram max res. @1600x1200at 75hz /display memoryaup to 8mb sdram/sgram

I think your video card memory is limiting the color depth at that resolution.!
The card says it supports 1600x1200 but it's probably at 256 colors.!
So ... I guess it is time to upgrade your video card.!
