Originally, the messaging vendors were keen to have third party apps access their networks. More business.
Now, with the problems of viruses and trojans and other security concerns, they are becoming more hestitant to futher potential security issues which third party apps might bring with them. So, IMO, while it's not intentional to lock out Trillian, Yahoo are not going to go out of their way to make changes to allow them back in. If they can connect, it will stay a non-issue, unless further security holes are found.
The AOL / Microsoft issue was more of a who own what thing, and is not really a good valid comparison.
All IMO of course.
Cheers
Mick
