Monitor Quirk

I hadn't used my laptop in about four days cause I went on a trip and I stored it in a drawer at home. Nobody could have touched it and nothing could have happened so I don't understand why - all of a sudden - when I switched my laptop on, there is a yellow line running down the lefthand side of the screen, about an inch and a half from the left edge. I tried rebooting and changing the display but the line appears on the screen from startup. It just all of a sudden appeared while I was using the computer and I don't know if somehting may be wrong with the monitor but I assume so since there's nothing else I can think of. It is a hair-thin line that really isn't obstructing anything but it's a real eyesore and an annoyance. If anyone knows what I can do, I'd really appreciate it, cause I just don't think it's worth trying to get fixed if it's just a tiny line, but it's very annoying and I'd like to know how it go there. you say it is on the screen during boot? that isnt a good sign. what type of laptop is it? perhaps you can get a diagnostic tool for it, or maybe even a bios update will shake things up enough. worth a shot.
