I'm not exactly sure how to line things up either, but I'll bump this for ya because I was going to ask a similar question.

How would I align the boxes perfectly on the dotted line to the left?

There has to be some way to "snap to" the line rather than having to manually move them until they appear to be lined up. I just haven't fiddled with it enough...I need to use it for a project I have at work though.

Does this work for you: link the layers and then choose align linked in the layer menu.

Assuming each box is on its layer and vertical dotted line on its layer then
1 select the dotted line w/ single column marque
2 select the box layer you want to align & from Layer menu choose Align To Selection

Martoch, use a guide (under view menu) and make sure snap to guides is on. it will snap the middle of the layers to the guide.

If you have your rulers visable, then just click on your horizontal or vertical ruler and drag. This will give you a guide that you can place wherever you want. Then turn on Snap to guides.

The alignment tools Creature was talking about are only for vector objects.

To move your guides after you've already placed them, just hold down CTRL.
