fade image in PhotoShop

How do you fade the picture to blend (fade) the outside edge to white or the background colour?

a step-by-step example would really be helpful or instructions written for a noob in PS would really be appreciated, any help for that matter

1 create new layer.
2 create a gradient with a gradient and colour of your choice on the second layer
3 fiddle around with the layer type (i think there is Overlay, Screen, Hard Light, Soft Light etc in a drop-down box in the layer toolbox) until u find one to your liking

sorry they are vague instructions, i dont have photoshop on this computer and im too lazy to walk to the other room! good luck

1> Click gradient, then pick the gradient type that is circular.
2> Double click the color scheme for the gradient, choose your first color (doesn't matter what it is), set the opacity to 0%. Select your second color (whatever color you choose to have the picture fade into), and set the opacity to 100%.
3> Start in the center of the picture, then draw the gradient line to the outer edge of the picture...the second color you selected will slowly fill from 0%-100% as it makes its way to the outer edge.

I also apologize for instructions with no pics, I'm at work without Photoshop.


It's not that difficult, even for another PS n00b like me!
