Messenger 6.0....uuuuggghhhhhhhh
I am so glad that I've finally found somewhere that I can express my opinion about msn messenger 6.0 because I could use some help here....
I have windows xp and was using messenger 3.6 and talking to someone with windows 98...(we both were using this version, as it was the only one that worked for us) but we were FORCED to upgrade to 6.0, and we don't like it, but we can't get 3.6 back..
i have the link but it brings me to 6.0...
my problem? i can hear them, but they can't hear me...i've gone through the audio wizard, and if i tap on the mic or make any noise (even blowing into the mic) it can be heard, but talking isn't possible unless the mic is practically in my mouth (NOT A JOKE)and then my words are muffled...
I know this sounds weird and something out of the twilight zone, but it's really happening, and it is SO frustrating...why can't msn just leave things alone...if it works for me, i'll take the risks...
ok, i've said what i had to say, and now i'll sit back and see if anyone has an answer...and a thank you to anyone who does !!!

I've never used msn messenger, and I wasn't aware you could talk through it!
Forgive me if I'm wrong; but you don't mean Netmeeting do you?

Welcome to Techimo Chevygirl,
Has/have you or your friend installed a firewall lately? The firewall could be preventing the connection. Also make sure you BOTH have the same settings.

The AUDIO WIZARD doesnt hear your words? just sound?
You MIGHT need a new mike, try this, take the pad off the mike, and verify the hole for the mike is pointed towards your mouth. Put the pad back on. Put the headset on and adjust so the Mike is about an Inch or so away from the side of your mouth. Basically a thumbs width and it must be to the side of your mouth so when you speak the sound of your words wont be drowned out by the air passing across the mike. Next to see if this adjustment works open sounds and audio properties select voice, and test the sound hardware. Once it is done make a recording by reading the paragraph. Select next then listen to what you have said. If it sounds garbled you may need a new headset.

Not that it'll help much, but if you like you can still use MSN Messenger 5.0. Get it from http://www.oldversion.com
First you'd have to uninstall MSN Messnger 6.0. While you're at it, highlight, right-click and copy this line:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
Click on Start, choose Run, and right-click and paste it in there, and hit OK. This will uninstall any remnants of Windows Messenger that XP has/had natively. Then try 5.0

when i use the audio wizard on messenger it does hear my voice..what i meant about the sound is when i'm connected to and talking on messenger...that's when i can tap on the mic or make any LOUD noise (coughing, etc) and that can be heard, but when i go to talk, it doesn't come in the way it should...i took your above advice and checked sounds and audio properties...
again, it doesn't come in very good...mostly broken up, but better if the mic is so close to my mouth i can taste it...i have 2 headsets; one is brand new and the results are the same...must i go out and buy a very expensive head set? this one only cost me $20...
again, thanks for your help and time
