K7S5A Pro Ram Support

I just bought a K7S5A Pro for my new server and am waiting for it to get here. I need to buy ram for it and I'm curious if it will support a 1gb stick. I know it can support up to a max of 1gb of ram but, not sure about just a 1gb stick.

I would prefer to put a 1gb stick over two 512mb sticks because a 1gb stick is cheaper than two 512mb sticks.

Thanks.

Sorry, the max amount it can support is 1GB, meaning it can only support 512 sticks in its two slots. You can't have 1 1GB stick in one slot and nothing in the other.

I didn't think so...but, you never know with this crazy mobo. Anyway, what is the best type of PC2100 that I can buy for this thing? I know this thing is very picky on what type of memory it takes as well as power supply so....

Thanks.

You'd do just fine with Micron/Crucial, but test it first - especially if it's for a server.

Are you sure? That's rarely the case. 2 x 512 would cost far less than 1 x 1GB of the same memory manufacturer...

If I buy my memory I usually get it from eBay and a 1gb stick will cost around $135-160 where as a 512mb stick costs around $80-90 a stick. You double that and you have between $160-180.

I wouldn't really care about having 1gb of ram but, Exchange 2003 is a memory hog.

ebay mem. At that price! LOL. Go to the egg and get a warrenty stick. Like kingston or go to crucial and get some. Free shipping life time warrenty on both. You dont get that from a auction site. With how mem can be. I mean out of the years of building I have returned ALOT of brand new mem bad right outta the box. Others that failed 6 months later. All covered by warrenty. But that would have added up over time if they were used sticks and I ate the loss. Now on our K7S5A Pro here I have the xp2200+ and PNY (samsung chips) mem pc2100 cas 2. Run rock solid since day one not a single hickup. So I know PNY or Samsung for that matter is O.K. with this board. Run memtest86 looped for 2-3 hours after setup and then you know for sure if mem and mainboard mem controler is o.k./compat.

I would get 2 stick of 512 mb ram for this mobo becasue this mobo won't support 1 gig stick. and also if something happens to your ram in the future losing 512 mb or ram is better then losing 1 gig!

I run 2 512 sticks of Cruicial in my Pro board and it runs great. The ECS boards are picky about ram and I have only run Crucial in all of mine. 4 - K7S5A, 1 - K7S5A Pro.
