Help me build a server...

I don't really want to spend over 150 dollars. I need a hd, mobo, processor, video card, ps, and case. Do you know any good deals where I can get the case with pc and motherboard with onboard video. Then I will only need a HD. I have a 357 mhz server right now. And I know 1 gig or around there will significantly help it. I don't really want to get a new ISP, do you think 256k upload would be ok for running an SOF2 server?

Sorry to leech off your thread:

How many players can a 1500/128 connection support (with <50 ping) on a CS or DOD server?

your going to have to spend a pretty penny on a nice MOBO CPU and RAM. The rest can be complete crap. If you are gonna have a lot of stats, or saved things, you may want a fast HD, but it can still be small.

I'd say ~$60 MOBO
~$75 CPU
~$140 RAM (1 gig)
~$250
plus other tiny junk

You're looking at $300 for a good server.

joker, UT servers suggest that no more than 4 players on a 1500/128 line can play until a ping of 100 is met.

UT is very similar to CS in online data transfer, but on many occasions i find rooms containing 12 and 15 people on lines such as yours, so its debatable.

my 5000/5000 line can handle a room of 32 people at a 30 ping easy, but thats a whole 'nother story

It takes about 5kB/s to support each player. 128kb is 16kB. You'll be able to hold 3 players nicely, 4 is really pushing it.

Hmm 300? My friend says he might be able to get me a 5xxmhz thunderbird for free. Should I spend like $100 bucks for a mobo,RAM, and hd for it?
