Halo for PC
$.02
Well, I played Halo today on my computer (let's leave it at that) and I have to say that the next generation of gaming has arrived. Not only has it arrived, but it's gonna smack all of us gamers in the face until we step up. Step up our hardware that is.
Halo, HL2, Doom 3. All of these games will push the limits. My overclocked Geforce 4400 and Athlon 3200+ can't seem to handle the game. The game does look completley awsome, and it has pushed me over the edge to DEFINATLEY buying a Radeon 9800.
If you try and run DX9 benchmakrs on a non-dx9 card, you can see that the even the top dx8 card just can't handle it. Makes me wonder what will happen to the gaming market as it switches to only high-end gamers.
It will suck when you HAVE to buy a $300 computer part just to play a game at 800x600.
What will the future be like? Can't wait for HL2 to come out! Hopefully some questions will be answered when it does.

guess I just won't buy the game...
Sorry I'm just a "pathetic" blue collar worker, I can't afford bleeding edge just to play a game

I'll be right there waiting with you Vass...
Right now I have a 1600+ and a GF 3 200 Ti Golden Sample and no money in the immediate future for an upgrade of any type.
If there's an upside here at least I can play the older releases really well and those gamers are certainly within my budget.

If the games' graphics aren;t cutting edge, they lose 50% of their audience.
If the graphics require ultimate hardware, then they lose the other half of their audience.
If a game can somehow look GREAT of new-age cards, but dumb itself down for older cards, then EVERYBODY'S HAPPY!

A major downfall of Halo, is that you can really tell is was ported. Almost feels like your playing it on an emulator.

Beat Halo last night after having it for 2 days.....I am so not impressed. I mean don't get me wrong, it was fun to play but it's not the transcendent experience that HL2, Doom 3 or Deus Ex 2 (now THAT is going to be something) are promissing to be. The missions are the generic "go there, kill everyone";"go there, flip the switch/blow up the reactor, kill everyone"; or "just get the hell out" type. The vehicles were kinda fun except I don't quite know why the warthog and the tank are invincible while the Covenant ships break at the drop of a hat. The biggest fault in the game was that the "flood" levels turned into Serious Sam type of levels....except that Serious Sam did them alot better.
I'm not gonna mention graphics as I played it on a GeForce 2 GTS and didn't see any diff from the XBox version.
This game was next-gen, except that was back in 1999 before Microsoft bought Bungie and made Halo be a launch title for the XBox.
