On a rig like that Mandrake should install faster than windows. How far have you progressed?

I think I had that problem at one point too. You may want to try reformatting the hard drive, then starting over with the install. It's not taking a long time, it's frozen.

mmmm, errors. Hate to tell you this. Could be a bad burn or corrupted download. Did you check the MD5 sums? Also, how's your CD drive been doing lately? I had a terrible time installing Mandrake once and it turned out to be my CD drive. I would get 3/4 of the way thru CD#2 and start getting errors.

I can attest to Xeroid's comment - faulty CD drives can ruin your day, after 3 2.1GB downloads on a DSL connection and you find out it's your IDE cable....

I can tell you one of my experiences with a corrupted Mandrake 9.1 CD. When I started the install it needed to pass in a process where it loads in your memory. When passing through this process it took hours (literally) to finish and when it did it told me that my Memory was corrupted or it was a Linux bug. I got scared since I thought my memory had rpoblems, but then I decided to download the .iso file again and I tried once again and this time it passed the process in 5 seconds. I agree with Xeroid, this could possibly be a corrupted CD. Try downloading it again (I would recommend from an other mirror's') and try again and see if you get the same problem again. Your system is more tha better for Mandrake, and the install would actually go faster than Windows. If you get the same problem again after downloading it from an other mirror(s) then something in your system must be wrong. Try downloading it again and keep us posted. We have a lot of Mandrake freaks here at TechIMO that would be more thn glad to help you. HTH
