Firewall problems

I would like to host online games, but there is a problem
I used to use a Linksys router with the cable modem, when I hosted online games it said I had a firewall, now I do not have cable internet anymore and I have a broadband internet and it is a linksys wireless usb adapter, not connected to the router, when I try to host games it still says I have a firewall, does the adapter have a firewall or is it the computer?
If anyone knows how to disable this firewall, please tell me what to do, thanks!

if you're on XP you may have the XP firewall turned on

check the settings of the adapter from network properties and make sure its unchecked (on the adapter settings, its the far right tab, believe it says firewall or protection or something.. I don't have xp so can't check at themoment)

Send a message via Yahoo to kendo
start -- settings -- control panel --- network

or right click on the network neighborhood icon on the desktop

do you have a software firewall installed for example zone alarm?

ok well then that firewall is not a problem

SO what is giving you the error?
Is it the game that sends the error, or is it windows?

You don't have anything set to use a proxy server do you? (guessing not)

I am using a wireless linksys adapter, it is connected to an access point nearby but I do not know where, I think the Access point could be a router, but I don't know how to open the ports.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!

I don't own a linksys router but if you listed the model of your router I'm sure someone could help you open a few ports in it.

What I think would easier than opening ports though would to be put the computer you're trying to game with in a DMZ (DeMilitarized Zone). That option should be fairly obvious to get working in the Router configuration page.

what games are you trying to host?

DMZ should work but its overkill as it exposes your whole computer to the internet

What you will need to do is find out the game ports your games run on, then log into the router and forward the ports your game uses. Then it should work

How do I do that???

Also, I am not using a router, my wireless adapter is connected to the access point somewhere nearby, I think it is a router,

Please Help!

TO GroudZero3: I don't care about that I just need to be able to host.

Edit: I know what ports that my game needs to run on, but I don't care about that, I just need to be able to host, My computer is trash anyways.
