Format NTSF partitions

Hi,

I'm trying to format my hard drive but I have NTFS partitions (c & d). I keep getting messages stating they can't be formatted. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Rick

Welcome to TechIMO!

What is the reason for the format?

Are you trying to install an OS?

Need more details.

Follow-Up to NTSF format issue

When I reinstall Win XP, it says there is an XMSl.dll unknown file problem but if I do Esc, it will keep loading. So I just want to do a complete hard drive format to clean everything out, and then do a complete new install of Win XP.

Send a message via ICQ to SPEEDO Send a message via AIM to SPEEDO
Wipe the hard drive using the drive manufacturers utility program.

If you don't have the floppy that came with the drive download it from their website. This will make it nice anda clean, Like my uncle Guido used to say..LOL

There is an option to quick format or full format with FAT 32 or NTFS at the begining of the XP set up

If you already tried the XP program, I would agree with SPEEDO.

Someone in this forum came up with this sight the other day on a similar question.
I haven't tryed it, but it might be worth a try if nothing else works

Thanks Stroya

I'll try both yours and Speedo's suggestions.

I'd try the format from the XP disk first.
