PC-cillin (PCCNTUPDT.EXE) and Windows 2000

I noticed I had a process running (PCCNTUPD.EXE) on my machine, and I didn't rightly know what it was. So I did a little research and apparently it's used for auto-updates of my virus scanner (PC-cillin 2000). However I have automatic updates turned off as I do everything manually, so I decided to end the task... unfortunately it won't let me ("Access denied"). I am logged in as Administrator and I can end other PC-cillin related tasks such as WebTrap32 and Pop3Trap...

Anyone know exactly why this process needs to be running? or more accurately what it's doing? My firewall never complains about it trying to do outbound access, so I assume it's not attempting to auto-update without my permission.
