GA-7N400-L Screen flashes during gameplay then reboots.. Help? :)

Hello, my brother got a GA-7N400-L about a month ago. During game play the screen will blink white and finally crash. XP claims it was caused by the video card (leadtek a250 ultra td my vivo ti4600). I then proceeded to put in different video cards. All of which do the same thing. Next I changed out the ram to make sure that wasn't causing it, no luck with that either. I've messed around in the bios also with no luck. However I found if I brought the fsb down to 100 (athlon 1100) everything ran fine. If i bumped it up to 133 (xp 1900) it would start happening again (his proc is a 2500+ @ 166fsb). His temps are fine (30-40C) I noticed the south bridge was kind of hot so I put a chipset cooler on it. Made no difference whatsoever. I even reformatted the computer hoping it was some kind of driver issue. This computer HAS worked for about a full month it JUST started doing this 1 week ago. As you will see bellow he has a stick of pc2100 in it along side pc2700. I have taken this stick out and the memory bus speeds run at 133 natively.

Here is one of the various errors windows gives him; "Computer restarted after a unexpected shutdown." (no der ) "Microsoft windows detected a possible device failure" (you don't say) "The driver for the display device was unable to complete a drawing operation. Please check with the device manufacturer for a driver update."

Now I have tried the 44dets and the 45dets along with using dx8 (what the game uses) and using dx9. I've also tried different games on it such as WarCraft 3. No change....

GA-7N400-L
xp 2500+
1x 512 corsair pc2700
1x 256 corsair pc2700
1x 256 generic compaq ram pc2100
Leadtek a250 ultra td my vivo ti4600 - tested also with g3 ti500, fx 5600
2x Cdrom/Cdrw
1x WD 40gig hd

The 2 256 sticks run in the first two slots (closest to the proc) the 512 sits in next available slot (orange one). But again I've changed the ram around even put different ones in there. The only new things on this system is the stick of 512 corsair the vid card the proc and the mobo, the rest has just been transferred over (other stick of corsair was purchased and installed while still using the compaq).

PS stats
Duro 400W
3.3v | 5V | 12V -5V | -12V | +5vsb
----------------------------------------------------
28A | 30A | 11A 0.5A | 0.8A | 3A

He originally had the compaq PS from the last case it was a 300W, once this blinking started going on I put in this PS to see if it would help (It obviously didn't).

Thank you for your time, I hope I gave you enough information. I've been racking my brain for a while now trying to figure this out any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I just now tried a enermax 431w ps. It "seemed" to help from what I can tell it just took longer for the symptoms to begin occurring.

I think it's the stick of PC 2100. If it is running at 133 MHZ FSB, the 2100 is overclocked.

At 133 MHZ, the PC2700 is underclocked at tad, and should run stable. 768 MB ram is plenty for all but demanding video editing applications.

At least that would be my next troubleshooting attempt.

I thought that as well but I've already taken that stick out. The ram timing is currently set to SPD instead of auto. I've tried both ways.

Wait I don't claim to know a lot about computers but I thought pc2100 ran at 266 (133 doubled) and pc2700 runs at 333.

I have been having a very similar problem to this with the same motherboard. It has been driving me up the wall ever since I realized my AGP card has been running in PCI mode. However I can't seem to fix it because when I install the nForce chipset drivers my system seems to crash unexpectedly and my latest attempt seems to get a flickering screen when opening things like internet explorer, and at times the card will stop refreshing the screen and have to "catch up" if it doesn't hang. I'm really interested to see what has worked for anyone else with this problem.

I have had the Pro version for awhile now so Im very familiar with them.

Nforcerwannabe, that first psu you listed was way underspec for a nforce2 board, particularly the 12v rail, good thing you changed that out.

The gigabyte mb's are very picky about ram, the thing you should do if you havent allready is run memtest on the ram, find out if it is giving you errors or not. When you do verify the status of the ram, then I would work on the timings and voltage, for corsair 2.8v is good, and relaxing the timings (manual imput) is way better than spd. You also have to take into acct that the ram slots have to be populated in a certain config, I.E ss/ds.

For both of you here are some links to good info about your respective boards, some links to forums and links to faq's
