Kids Any way around this???

Hey guys, I'm new here. Got a question for you all. I go to ITT Tech, they issued us a hard drive. It is a 40GB drive, it is in a case so you can slide it in a bay and use it. I have a bay at home attached to a controller card, which has its own bios, and I can boot from a drive if I want to, my hard drive is set as cable select. What I'm trying to do is be able to boot the OS both at school and at home. I have tried to do this several times with win2000, win2000 server, etc. I have tried hardware profiles, that doesn't work either, unless the hardware is almost identical. At school, we have dells and compaqs. At home I have a custom built computer, different hardware. What happens is when I try to boot from the computer at home, I get a blinking cursor or NTLDR missing. I know this is happening becuase the HAL is different, and the MBR is written for that specific hardware. I know there has to be around this. Any help would be appreciated.

u could have 2 seperate partitions, install your os to each one (install 1 at school, 1 at home), then have a shared partition for data
