Ccapp? What is it and why won't it shut.

Every time I try to restart or turn off my computer ccApp won't shut and Windows has to shut it using the end now box.
From the forum archives I get the impression that ccApp is something to do with Norton Anti-Virus but thats all I know.
I have Norton 2003 Anti-Virus and am running Windows XP.

I know that this is only a small thing but since asking you guys stuff on this forum, you always have the answers, the longest response was only seven minutes, and your advice always works.
My computer has never run so smoothly. And why doesn't microsoft have a forum that is efficient as this? Instead of having all those radio buttons and "help" wizards. I ask you guys - you tell me. Sorry to moan but they have been giving me the run around alot recently. Glad I found this site.

Anyway, any light on the ccapp thing would be much appreciated.
P.S. I did an update this morning on Norton but it hasn't helped.

So how do I get it to shut with the rest of my computer without it requiring special treatment. It never used to do that.

Sorry. Now this is probably embarrisingly obvious but what do with it now I know where it is. I managed to find out it is version 1.0.8.1 if that helps. Surely I should not just delete it. Last time I did something like that it was start up disk time lol.

If you can repair it from here then I'm a total cretin and can't figure out how to do that either. The $40 option isn't to pretty either as AV 2004 costs less and for all I know mightn't give me the same problem.

I wonder if Norton diliberately hand out dodgey updates as a form of obselesence to get you to buy the new one? This problen only started to happen when 2004 came out. Maybe I'm too synical.

yes, you are being too cynical, lol.

This is something that just goes along with computers...software doesnt always work perfectly.

Is there anyway you can uninstall and reinstall norton??

have you looked at nortons site to see if anyone else had the same problem??

Can't re-install the disk as I never owned it. The bloke in halls at uni next door to me had it and and so I loaded it up and it was fine. No problems for either of us to get updates so we paid half each. He has the disk and could be anywhere.

Norton have not helped much. I find their site much like microsofts in that respect

I guess so but that would take the same amount of time as it would to shut it manually at the end without the trouble of having to remember to do it. I guess it is just one of those things.

Its annoying but tolerable.
