Help... another friend with problems

another friend is having computer problems... it seems that his computer couldnt find his cd burner... but then 2 hours later it can find it. he says that this happens about once a year, and when it happens his computer will start going crazy with random reboots, bsod, other "can't find" problems, and finally (about 3-5 days later) a complete system crash that needs formatting to fix...

ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO FIX? please!
any ideas on what is casuing this?

hmmm.im almost willing to bed its an HP pavillion got a friend that the same thing happen to him to this date his CDR drive wont work at all.

Yeah, with the bottom-feeder motherboard and the power supply that isn't up to the job. That's my suspicion, too.
