How to do Win XP repair...

OK... Im comin off as a dummy right now because Ive done this in past without any problem but tonight I'm havin troubles...maybe tired ...maybe a screwed up system?
I have a basic computer ECS board with a 1,1 GHz duron 256Mg DDR 40 gig cdrw.... Windows XP....
this computer was bogged down with spyware, bloatware, etc.
ran a cleaner program, regclean, spybot, adaware, chkdsk, defrag, XP Smoker and got all MS updates....
It has a "Error Loading C:\WINDOWS\bs3.DLL...specified module could not be found" after loading windows...
I tried booting from CD and doing repair but after putting in the administrator password, it goes to a C:\WINDOWS> prompt and just sits there....
What am I overlooking?

Thats what the repair option is sopposed to do... let you access the system files to try and delete/replace/edit them

doesnt the repair option basically do a simple reinstall of windows files without having to format?
I could have sworn I did this in past...Have I lost it completely here or does anyone know what Im referring to....is it a repair option while in windows...not the "last known good configuration either...

Unfortunately, i have some experience with the XP recovery console. Note: do NOT delet boot loader from XP lol.

Anyways, the recovery console is not about about re-installing or formatting or anything. Once oyu get to the C:\windows prompt, you can type "help" i believe for list of commands. See if by using the copy command you can copy the bs32.dll files off the XP cd and to your windows file. Also, im not sure what your problem is. Does the computer actually boot to a desktop? or is that error message just in a black screen ebfore the OS even boots?
Please give some more info.

Taz

there is a repair option on the XP disk. just put in the XP disk and click in install XP then it will reconice another copy of xp and ask you what you want to do :format ,repair or creat a partition. click R for repair and you should be set. i have done this a few times .

a good site to keep bookmarked is http://www.dll-files.com/
they have lots of DLL files to dl for free but i did not see the one that you are missing

I'm not sure if xp is the same, but in 2Kyou can boot from cd, answer install at the first screen, and run repair from teh 2nd screen as you would an install; saves your data, config, etc.

MS dll help:

ok start over, skip the first option of repair and click on install xp then it will start the install and find the first copy of XP and ask you what to do:format ,repair or create another partition . click on the first copy of xp and click R for repair

EDIT: ok i just put my disk in and clicked install windows xp then a window pops up and asks what type of install:upgrade or new install click on new install then it should get you to where it will find the existing windows and ask you to repair ect..
