Dead CPU ?

When I try to boot up, nothing happens. The 4 leds on the MSI motherboard are on, which means that something is wrong with the CPU.

CPU fan spins and the PS ones, but that is all.

I tried to put the same processor in another motherboard, and the same thing happened. I tried resseting the CMOS. Tried 3 different power supplies. Tried 2 different heatsinks ...

No apparent cracks or whatsoever are visible on the CPU. All pins are in perfect shape.

I guess CPU is dead. Any suggestions apart to throw it away ?

AMD or Intel?

Did you try running it w/o a HSF?

Any bent pins?

Does it look "burned"?

you'll know for sure when you put a different cpu in and it fires right up.

Then you will have a nice new piece of jewelry....although I think a new fish aquarium decoration would be a good use for the old cpu.

I used mine as a key-chain. It is a nice conversation piece for when I toss my keys onto the floor at the gym.

Seriously, I'd try a processor in your dead system, but it does sound like the processor you have is dead. When you tried the suspect processor in the other system, did you put the original, known-to-work processor back in the system and try to boot?

Yeah I did Daveleau. And the other processor worked .... The dead one, was ... well, dead. Hehe.

Everything seems alright EvilRick. No cracks, no bent pins, nothing suspicious. Amd.

Thank you for the wonderful ideas as what to do with the processor though. Yes, a key-chain seems quite a good idea. Did you drill throughh it to make a hole or what ?

Yep. Never seen poins on a processor. So I had to edit it to say pins.
