System restoration question

A guy I work with has an Emachine and the hard drive went bad in it. He ordered another hard drive which is 40GB, and his original drive was 4.3GB. My question is: If he uses his system restore disk with the new larger hard drive will it partition the drive as a 40GB drive and restore his original files? or will it partition his 40GB drive into a 4.3GB partition and restore his files to that partition leaving the other 35GB+ as unallocated space?

Depends on what the system restore disc does. If you need to manually partition the drive first, or if the restore disc contains FDISK, then you should be able to set the new drive as one large partition.

Be careful of the 8-gig limit. Might need a BIOS update.
