Samsung Hard Drives

Does anyone own or owned any Samsung hard drives? What are your opinions on it? I am considering this from newegg: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...fer=pr1c3watch

I read the reviews on the website, but I'd like more opinions just to be safe.

ive never used a samsung drive, but a 3 year warranty is 2 years longer than you're gonna get from anyone else except for Western digital and then only on their special edition drives.

The thing with warranties is, you have to use up your own time and sometimes your own money for the manufacturer to correct their mistake. I'd rather get a product that will work for sure than one that I'd have to keep returning.

I had some of their previous edition drives. They were quiet and reliable, but not excessively fast. That was primarily due to the fact that you couldn't enable DMA on them and have it stay enabled. Don't know about the newer generation of 'em.

(Edited because I can't type)

I currently have a 40gb spinpoint SP4004H, I've had it for a little over two years. It's quiet to the point of being silent, I've never heard it make any kind of noise! It's reliable, the S.M.A.R.T has always reported 100% and still does (unlike my Maxtors and a previous WD), at 100ATA it's as fast as my 133ATA maxtor, but neither are as fast as my 150SATA maxtor.

It's the best drive I've owned in 10 years of computing! of course I can't speak for the newer drives, but if they've made improvements ...

I was going to put it in my daughters computer because I have 2x 80gigs now, but I can't bear to part with it, so I use it for games.

I think Samsung bought IBMs harddrive business. You might want to check on that. These might be IBM Deathstars in disquise.

Nope, Hitachi bought the IBM HDD business. Fujitsu has been at it quite a while and has had a significant presence in the SCSI server drive market for years.

I've been trying to kill a 10 year old Fujitsu 4.5 gig SCSI since about 1998 and just cant do it

I've used some Samsung drives and never had any problem at all. I bought several back when 6 and 8gb was the standard. They are still in friends machines purring away. My experience with Samsung products in general is very good. Excellent drives, cd-roms, memory etc.
