reading the Linux Kernel archive for supported hardware...

I'm probably spacing out....

I see a deal on a card called "Aitech Wavewatcher TV-PCI TV Tuner/ Video Capture Card". I want to use it under Linux, the merchant makes no mention about Linux compatibility, so I googled.

I googled as follows:
www.google.com/linux
I entered 'aitech tv tuner', got a potential answer in the first search result.
I went to the first search result, here
That looks like a 'kernel patch' post from mid summer.

I can't tell if what I read there at that link is telling me the card is 'supported' or 'not supported'.

I might as well be reading a zip file in an ascii text editor for all I can understand of the patch message.

Am I the only one that gets lost reading that post?

Better still... is the Aitech Wavewatcher TV-PCI TV Tuner/ Video Capture Card actually supported?

This patch updates the bttv documentation
So the patch is just an update to the bttv modules documentation. On a related note I use the bttv driver with an el cheapo TV tuner and it works great, although you would need to check the exact chipset of the card you want to use.

Close, spooky, but is the card (listed at the bottom of the page) supported or not supported?

Not trying to quibble.... if I look up top, I see "supported cards' and the next entry is bt849/bt849a/yahda.
Immediately beneath that bt entry is the string
Code:
Unsupported Cards:
 ------------------
From then on, the list is huge, and includes the wavewatcher I wish to obtain.

Is my problem any clearer now?

Hmm I see what you mean now. I would ignore that patch as its just a diff against some random kernel. If all else fails you can allways just grep the latest kernel source you can get your hands on for any information about your card.

Yeah, if I'm running Linux/Unix I can 'grep', but no grep for Windows 98!!!

Thanks - I'll try that soon!

(d/l under W98 to c:\somewhere, reboot knoppix 3.3, mount /dev/hda, untar it to /dev/hda/somewhere_else, grep the untarred file).
