Come out, come out wherever you are...

My hard drive is playing peekaboo with me...

I'm trying to format a hard drive, it's a 30gb ibm deskstar(i know, i know...) it's the master on the second ide by itself. It shows up in XP (file system: RAW) and in the bios (Secondary Master: IDE hard drive) but
I'm having a hard time formatting it. I tried using fdisk, but fdisk doesn't even see the fixed disk. WinXP is on FAT32, and I tried formatting the disk both with ntfs and fat32, but the system freezes, and eventually I get a message saying "could not interrupt format"..

Also, when I try to install XP by itself on the hard drive, it says "An error occured while setup was updating information"

Also, I tried to delete the partition in the XP setup, but it says "partition you selected cannot be deleted"

Please Help!

TIA,
David

right ........ use FDISK and chose option 4 i belive it is View all partishions ( or somin like that) if nothing is displayed then u have no partishions and need to make one. i would also use FDISK for this. then u should have no problems.

otherwise i would say it could have a corroup extended partishion on it. you can use fdisk for that but that is a bit more complicated and i can't expain it but i am sure you will be abel to find it it menu number 3 on fdisk.

if that fails run disk doctor from norton 2003 on it

hope this helps
