help me im new to linux....

ok so ive always kinda wanted to try linux, but never had the time(or effort for that matter)

i found a comp with decent specs in a refurbished store in harlem for a 100 bucks. For kicks i bought it, came with a crt and decent specs. problem is, the windows is completely screwy. lots of problems with it. So i was thinking i would reformat this sucker and wipe the drive and then start over with linux running, maybe help me learn more about linux.

so how would i do this, i dont have the windows disk, where can i get linux that i can boot up from the boot up screen?

if its confusing, blame me, but any response will be appreciated.

most (if not all) linux cds are bootable. download linux for free. burn it on to a cd rom. change your first boot device to cd-rom and presto

i would suggest mandrake since you are a linux newbie. Forewarning. linux is nothing like windows. dont expect it to download .exe, double click it and its installed.
