Does M$ send emails to you even if...

youve never signed up for anything from them? I dont think they send random emails out to people and I know Ive never given them my work email addy.

We got 3 emails today claiming to be M$ but I know its not from them. Two of the emails had attachments of .exe's, yeah I know better than to open those. The third email just had links to various parts of M$'s website. I still think all are fakes but where would those links go. I didnt click them in fear of a redirection to a virus.

The MS emails I receive are usually from some number and then the domain, for example
0_52027_A1F64471-404E-D111-1EB_US@Ne....Microsoft.com

I don't remember ever receiving unsolicited mail from them. I'm pretty sure the only emails I receive from them are emails I have signed up for

Why should they? They own your OS already.

I receive e-mail from MS only for a newsletter that I requested.

If you look around here a little bit, you'll find a few threads of people getting a lot of e-mails from M$, all turning out to be virus laden.

I received an email from MS back on the 10th. Had to do with security fixes and the like.

We are contacting you today to make you aware that we have released Microsoft Security Bulletin MS03-039 today, September 10, 2003. This bulletin details three critical vulnerabilities in the Windows operating system and provides instructions for applying the corresponding patch. While there is currently no active exploit of this vulnerability, if successfully exploited, these vulnerabilities would allow an attacker to gain control of the target system.

Blah, Blah, Blah

From;
Microsoft [0_52294_2080E295-AD5A-44D1-8DF2-74A99A29AE6D_US@Newsletters.Microsoft.com]

I do beleive this was a legit email from MS as there was no
attachments.
Also all the links provided went to legit MS pages that discussed firewalls, security and so forth.
First email i've ever received from them though.
Anyone else receive that one?

They're most likely viruses. My Yahoo account was flooded with them.
