AMD Xp 2800+
1024 PC3200 Corsair ram
120 gig Seagate HD
Asus a7n8x Mobo

What are the average idle/load temps for a computer using the stock HSF?

Temps depend on a whole factor of things, there is a very broad range which can be considered normal... Post yours and we can tell you if you're good to go.

I'm not sure what's normal for an XP 2800. I get 42c on my 2400 with a Vantec Aeroflow. I'm only using a front intake and rear exhaust case fan though.
