Photoshop Question

If I create a 800x600 layout that I want to use as my webpage, what do I have to do to slice it up and save it as individule jpgs?

Other that using the marquee tool to select what I want and save it in a fashion of that sort, is there a way to simply and grid lines or slices of some sort then say save these grids and individule jpgs?

You use the Slice Tool. Simply slice up the image how you want it to be. Then adjust the properties of each slice and put in any needed html code. For example, if you sliced up an image into 3 pieces and you wanted each peice to be a link pointing to a different web page, then all you'd have to do is enter the target url in each slice's properties.

Then when it is all set, do SAVE FOR WEB from the FILE menu. Then you can just save all slices. Photoshop will make the HTML document for you (or it'll only make the HTML table if you so choose) and it'll save all the individual sliced up images in a sub-directory under wherever you saved the HTML document.

It's pretty slick. If you want to see an example of a multi-sliced up image with many various links then check out my fairly new (sorta)portfolio page here:

All I did was put all those images together as one image in PS...then sliced it up and saved it. PS did all the work of making the HTML table and getting everything to line up and look good.

Hehe. I know it's not the one you used, but still, I reallly kinda liked it. I thought the tufts of hair off the "Y" was a decent idea.

You don't mind I hope.?

What OuT has described is a "user-based" slice, where one creates custom slices.

You can also create "layer-based" slices. From the PS7 Help files:

Quote:
When you create a slice from a layer, the slice area encompasses all the pixel data in the layer. If you move the layer or edit the layer's content, the slice area automatically adjusts to encompass the new pixels.

Layer-based slices are especially useful when working with rollovers. If you apply an effect to the layer--such as a drop shadow or glow--to create a rollover state, the slice automatically adjusts to encompass the new pixels. However, do not use a layer-based slice when you plan to move the layer over a large area of the image during an animation, because the slice dimension may exceed a useful size.

To create a slice from a layer:

Select a layer in the Layers palette.
Choose Layer > New Layer Based Slice.

As an aside... If you're designing for a 800x600 viewable display, make sure you create the doc at 750width which will allow enough room for browser scroll bars without the need for horizontal scrolling.
