position of drives on ide cable

I have a dvd burner set to master and dvd rom set to slave on sec bus. i have always heard that the master device should be plugged in on the middle plug ( closest to mb connector) on a 2 device cable.

right
or
wrong or
dont matter?

thanks, lreid

That's an interesting concept.... You should consult your mobo manual or even the DVD drive manuals. I'm pretty sure they'd tell you that the end plug is master (usually colored black) and the middle plug is slave (usually gray).

just curious because i was watching a tech tv show and they were saying that the plug closest to the mb gets best access times.
