Kids Network Connection Drop

Recently I have been having trouble connecting to web sites or anything related to online service. I share my connection via a Linksys BEFSR41 ver 2 router and lately, like a month and a half, the connection has been acting up. I've called up my provider and they found nothing wrong with the connection when I hooked the modem directly to my computer, had to use USB since the Ethernet did not want to work with the modem. Since using the modem that way steals the connection from everyone else in my household we decided to hook it back up to the router and mess with it. The connection lags out through the router and last night we found out something strange, when I shut down my computer the other computers have no trouble with their speed. Now, what could that mean? I know that it can mean that my computer is causing the problem but what in my computer could cause the problem? I am running on a WinFast K7nCR18D Pro motherboard with an onboard NIC so maybe my NIC is toast? I noticed something strange when my NIC refused to work with the cable modem but when I connect to the network and access computers via the router there's no trouble with speed. So maybe it's not my NIC or maybe something set wrong? I just want to hear what others have to say before I go and buy a new NIC and disable my onboard and all that stuff. Thanks for your time everyone.

I've updated the firmware and even spoken to Linksys about it. They recommended an earlier firmware, which I tried already. Neither the old or new firmware fixed the problem.

you happen to have any extra nic's floating around?? why not try just dropping a pci nic in that box and disabling the onboard and see if that fixes it....

before you try that.. did you try swapping out the cat5 cable just to see if the cable was borked??

Kids

I tried switching out the cable for the computer that is lagging with one that is not and still the same. As soon as I get a reply from Leadtek about the onboard NIC I will make a decision on whether or not to get a new NIC. Any other suggestions?

All right.. for a little while a new NIC helped, but my crappy connection came back. I still haven't heard anything from LeadTek about the motherboard, so I'm running out of options. Ideas?
