Help Setting Up Web Server

Can someone direct me to a site that will show me step by step how to set up the http server (apache) that comes with Red Hat 9.0?

I have seen numerous sites, but none of them are geared toward this particular version that is already on here.

I'm not a linux expert either, so I need a beginners type lesson.

I got it to work fine if I browsed to it from my linux box, but if I try it from another computer on my network or from a computer outside of my network I can't get to the page. I have already set my router to route that traffic to my linux box.

What else do I do?

Send a message via ICQ to crouse
open a terminal (as root) and type

ifconfig

it will give you your local ip address. Probably something like 192.168.X.X
X being some other number.

entering that into any of you local networked computers should give you the correct page.

on the local computer it should be
http://localhost.localdomain/
on your networked computers it would be
http://192.168.X.X Probably

As far as your router goes......... port 80 must be forwarded to your LOCAL ip address. Again, using ifconfig as root will give you that local ip address #

HTH's

Oh..... an external computer would use your ISP provided IP address......

IE something like: http://12.216.132.167/
Your EXTERNAL IP can be obtained by browsing to www.iowawebmasters.com

You know....I had that same problem....it all has to do with security under redhat. Your computer is rejecting requests because the security is set to reject http requests.

Here's how to make http incoming requests work:

simply go to main menu -> System Settings -> Security Level.

Click customize and check the www (http) box . You might want to enable dhcp also.

It worked for me....I hope it works for you.
