Terminal23 is on a distinguished road
Been about a week with Linux.

Slowly but surely it's comming along.I'm not sure ,but I think my network settings are a bit slow,at least the NET is.I need to figure out how to tweak these settings if there are any to tweak.Any suggestions?

Is this a dialup modem (internal, external etc?), DSL (PPPoE, PPPoA, USB, ethernet etc?), cable modem or something else entirely? Do you mean slow as in latency or bandwidth?

Regards

I recently changed from Mandrake to Redhat and I must say I am very happy! Its really great, and everything works as expected. Mozilla really rules and its not that difficult (at least for me) and I am starting to think why the hell people use Windows today (except for gaming of course)

Good you are comming along, the most important is to never give up, even if its giving you tremendous headaches.

Slow as in latency.I use a cable modem.I just notice Linux is a tad bit slower loading web pages than Windows.Or at least the web browser is slower.I use IE in Windows and Opera in Linux.

Have you tried using a different browser just to check its not Opera acting up? May be worth checking if you get sensible pings from the Linux box and that it is resolving names properly.

Opera 7.2 in Linux is slow for me too even though mine is registered (no bandwidth sucking ad-bar).

Give Konqueror or Mozilla a try. It is also probably a good idea to make sure you have the latest stable version of Mozilla with the latest versions of flash and java properly installed.

Having the proper java plugin installed is especially important if you are running Redhat9 -there is a different gcc version or something.

One more thing, I set a friend of mine up with two computers behind a router on Verizon ADSL, both computers have WinXP and SuSE Linux, His son has SuSE 8.1 and dad has SuSE 8.2 ... for some strange reason the Verizon DNS servers would not play fair with the SuSE 8.2 install -it was slow as 14.4 dialup, I gave the SuSE 8.2 install another DNS (borrowed from another ISP) and it was back up to speed.

Opera 7 caused X to keep crashing on me in redhat 7.3. I like firebird better then mozilla cause it is a bit more responsive. You can get it from Mozilla.org.
