Alternative mount for built-in Firewire?

I am considering getting a MoBo such as the Asus A7N8X Deluxe, which has 2 Firewire ports on the motherboard. This type of board comes with a bracket with the actual Firewire connects on it, and it would appear that the bracket would render one of the PCI slots unusable.

Does anyone have any alternatives to getting access to the Firewire ports without blocking a PCI slot? Maybe some other place that the Firewire connectors can be mounted.

There is a photo of the connector at the Newegg website for this product.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Welcome to techimo.

Remove all cards on the inside of your tower.
Drape something over your motherboard as you will be drilling the rear of the tower.
Flatten out the mounting plate and cut off any extra plate material you don't need for mounting.
Cut a couple of holes in a blank spot on the rear panel of your tower to accommodate the connectors on the back of the plate.
Use a nail to dent the plate in 2 places for mounting screw holes.
Drill out the dents.
Dry fit your mounting plate and drill the first hole and bolt it in.
Now drill the second hole using your mounting plate as a stencil.

Vacuum out the interior of your tower to remove all the metal filings from the drilling operation.

Do everything slow and meticulously and you shouldn't have a problem.

Cheers!
