Friends computer
Hi guys, I'm going to be helping a friend build a new system. If you had $3000 to spend whats the setup you would get? I'm trying to help him choose the parts to use. I know $3000 is a lot but thats what he wants to spend.

Wow, I wish i had friends like that. With that much, I'd say P4@3.2ghz, 250gb hddx2RAID0, 1gbDDR400, 21monitor, Radeon 9800.

"Holy Moly!"
Ask him "what" he wants this somewhat pricey computer to do, exactly. That will dictate which components to procure/include.
That would be mighty fun to plan & build such a computer!

Lots and lots of games (UT2K3, DAoC, Bf1942) as well as programs such as Bryce 3D and lots of video editing as well. I was thinking something crazy like 2 of those 15,000 rpm scsi hard drives.

Not worth it. Spending all that money for top of line stuff which will no longer be in a few months.

Go with 9800Pro 128mb or maybe wait till new ATI card comes out. Get a Asetek VapoChill case :0) and go with 3200+ Barton and overclock that badboy way high. Ummm......go with SATA hard drive. 2GB Ram make sure u get good ram like Corsair with good heatsinks. Logitech Z-680 Speakers :0) I think that he will like those :0) Also if he is going to be playing a lot of High graphics games go with a good CRT monitor if not go with an LCD Screen..... Need a good Mouse/Keyboard (I like logitech) Good Mobo. Abit, Asus, Or Gigabyte (my personal favorites.) Lite-on Drives. Etc. GO WITH THE VAPOCHILL CASE!!!! Pumps -19C air into his case.....u could overclock that CPU so high... Have fun...you lucky dog..Wish I had $3000 to spend on a comp. VAPOCHILL!!!!
