Food Tip: For External Serial (RS-232) Modem Users!

Note: I found a neat utility that may help serial external modem users. I was hoping that it would help my problem with the NetWaiting (MOH, modem on hold, for Conexant based modems) program, but no such luck. However, it does seem to enhance the crispness of my web surfing .
. It is called SHSMOD (serial high speed mod). It can set your serial port speed to run at:
ALI: (230400,460800bps)
NS: (230400,460800,921600bps)
SMC: (230400,460800bps)
WinBond: (230400,460800,921600bps)
VIA VT82C686A/B: (230400,460800bps)
for the supported chips. This can enhance the responsiveness of your modem if its serial port can also operate at such speeds. Here is the link: SHSMOD
. Enjoy!

Food

Which modem did you buy - please give manufacturer's name and model number?
. Most RS-232 modems don't need special drivers unless you want to use special features. You can just use the Modems icon in Control Panel and click the add modem button. When it asks you to look for modem, say no - pick from list. From list, choose generic 56k modem on whatever COM port you connected it to.

Didn't you get the CD and the little instruction pamphlet with it? The CD usually says Computer Associates on it. That has the drivers for Windows as well as some software you can use for faxing etc. if you want to.
