Do ISPs track port 21?

I set up a small FTP between me and my dad to transfer about 2 GB worth accross the US. I know that most ISP's kind of get angry if you are using a lot of bandwidth on FTP's. Since 21 is the default port for FTP's do they watch that one more than others? Can your ISP even watch specific ports?

Thanks

I would gather to say they can watch any port they want.

They'll mainly notice an enormouse amount of bandwidth usage, then look to see what port it's on. If they see it's on 21, then they'll know it's FTP.

If it's not on a default port, then they would just see whatever port was churning out the most data. They're not gonna care what port is doing what, just the amount of data flowing in/out of your IP address.

WEll, the way it seems that ISP's don't care if you are sending tons, of data, but if it's with an FTP, then they hate you. I have no clue why.

I was just wondering if it's safe to put the FTP on port 21 or choose some random port like 134671

Try it and see, if they're gonna bust you, it would be for the amount used, not the port.

You could try it on one of those game ports and just tell them that you were fraggin' like a mofo.

I believe most ISPs look at total bandwidth per client initally (because a lot of monitoring software seems to have that ability above all others). Then many will have breakdowns by the top x number of used ports per client. So they can make a determination if the client is breaking any TOS.
