What should I do

I ordered my PC on sunday, and all of it is due to arrive tomorrow but the heatsink. Apparently they were out of stock on it, and had to ship it to me from NJ, and I have to wait an extra 2 days to get it. So what should I do? Wait like a good little boy for the HSF, or put the PC together with the stock HSF, and then switch them out later when I get the new one in the mail?

2 days is cake, man. if you waited to save up the money then another 48 hours will be worth it in my books.

I could just switch out HSF's when the new one arrives like I said. ANd it wasn't exactly saving up. It was waiting to turn 18, so I could get my inheritence money.

Thenimrod:

I would go ahead and build the thing. If the HSF (stock) is definitely rated for the CPU, this is a great opportunity to compare HSFs! Who knows, the stock may keep your CPU cooler than the 3rd party unit. Simply because it's stock does not mean it's inferior.

Enjoy.

Well, my computer is built and the HD is formatting right now. Wow, the retension clip on the stock HSF sucks so much ass. I was afraid I had put too much pressure on the CPU when putting it on. But in the end I got it, and since it's been up for about 30 minutes now, partitioning/formatting the new drive for win2k, and I don't see any smoke yet, i'll assume I did things right. (this is my first build)

Stock heatsinks are fine as long as you don't plan on OC'ing.Otherwise I don't waste my money.CPU's are so fast now I really have lost interest in OC'ing anymore myself. Why do I care If I can squeeze another 30 Mhz out of it and risk damaging the unit.JMO though so it don't count for much.

I agree Terminal, I'm an Intel user, and lost interest once Intel started locking their CPUs. Back in the days of the first Pentiums, it was a lot of fun, and those older models didn't put out much heat. The last Pentium I oced, was a P2 400mhz, that I got up to 500mhz. My 12 year-old daughter has that system now, and it's still going strong.

I never bothered ocing my Pentium III 800mhz, which I ran for nearly 3 years. I recently upgraded to a P4 2.4c Mhz and installed in on the ABIT IS7 mobo with the 800 fsb. It's fast enough for me, and I'll probably run it for 3 or more years.
