Your board should recognize your processor and set itself---if not, check your manual for a bios setting to tic...

just curious as well, I received my p4 3 days ago. What is hyperthreading and how do I know if it's activated? I ask because I dont trust the maker of my laptop.

Easy way to tell if HT is working hit ctrl-shift-esc (windows XP), and under the preformance tab in CPU Usage history you will have 2 graphs 1 for each "prossessor" . Also your Device manager will show 2 prosessors.

I was given the option in my BIOS. I have an ABIT IS7 for my P4 2.4 with 800fsb. On ABIT's recommendation, I didn't activate the hyper-threading until I upgraded from Windows 98SE which dosen't recognize hyper-threading, to XP Pro, which does. This feature is suppose to dramatically enhance running several applications at the same time. It gives you a "virtual" 2nd processor. That's why task manager shows 2 processors. I don't have the link, but Intel explains it on their web site.
