Webcam with messenger and LAN

Hi everybody,
I am connected to the internet with LAN using my university's network.I am trying to use my webcam with msn messenger but it doesnt work.I get a network problem error or something like that.The camera works fine , and it actually works with msn messenger when i connect with someone using the same network with me ,with no problem.I believe it has something to do with the socks settings or something like that..
If anyone knows something please help..
Also if u can advise me on any other software who will work please let me know..

sounds like you cant get through your univ. firewall. not too much you can do about that.
