Webcam with messenger and LAN

Hi everybody,
I am connected to the internet with LAN using my university's network.I am trying to use my webcam with msn messenger but it doesnt work.I get a network problem error or something like that.The camera works fine , and it actually works with msn messenger when i connect with someone using the same network with me ,with no problem.I believe it has something to do with the socks settings or something like that..
If anyone knows something please help..
Also if u can advise me on any other software who will work please let me know..

didnt i already reply to this thread? it sounds like your are having problems with either your university firewall, or the person you are connecting too has a firm firewall enabled.

yes it must be the university firewall...can i do anything or its just a matter of the university network?
Do u know any software that might work different and doesnt have problem with firewalls?

talk to the people who run the network. see if they have any suggestions on what you can do to maybe get your webcam software working.

have you tried netmeeting which is built into windows?
