Heat Sink and Fan w/ XP 2500+

Hi All,

Just bought a new AMD 2500+ CPU and notice that it came with a heatsink and a Fan.

Will I need to replace the heatsink and fan it I have no plans in overclocking the machine?

Thanks in advance

Atomic Rooster will become famous soon enough

The included HSF will work just fine for you since you will not be overclocking.

Magwel, how do you know which side the heatsink should be facing? The clip mounting clip that you need to push down on should face the same side as the head of the lever right?

I think cowofchaos would probably want a better view of the heatsink. All you can see there really is the fan.

there is a little lip on the bottom of the heatsink to go over the socket . so there is only 1 way it will go on .

OMAR knows... The clip may be reversed if needed to clear capacitors, power supplys, etc, but the heat sink is degined to fit snugly on those four pads, and make EVEN contact with the core.

It might mount with the lip on the wrong side, but will not make good contact and trasfer heat as intended.

Hrmm, I dunno. The heatsink came with the cpu, it has an arrow on one end, but it has 3 retaining slots on it. You can mount on either side and it is still even. Anyone have any pics? thanks

It has a notch on bottem like all the Socket A style HSF. The notch goes towards the raised bridge on Z.I.F. that says S462, Socket A or (Intel ) S370. It faces the bases of the cpu handle bar. It WONT sit flat both ways. Only one way is right..... Very small diff. but will hang none the less.
