ABIT KA7 SLOT A WONT BOOT

Hi all

I have an ABIT KA7 mb and a 650 slotA cpu. It will boot up to the first stage of the bootup screen and sometimes make it past showing the memory is ok to showing the HDD and showing cmos checksum error and if I am lucky I will hit the F1 key to continue to load windows but will not detect a mouse. Most of the time the keyboard will not respond when I hit a key when I first turn it on. But only if I turn it on and off over and over. I have tried a different cpu, different memory, cleared the cmos.... And I can't get into the bios. Could it be the battery? I will try that. I know, most of you will say why not a newer computer? Well this one is not mine, and it is someone's who can not upgrade to a more recent model. Thanks for any help. james

It could be a bad board. I had a KA-7 that suffered the fate of bad capacitors. It worked fine for about a year or2, then all of the sudden it acted really wierd, and eventually didnt do anything. Those boards are bad about that.
