ABIT KA7 SLOT A

Hi all

I have an ABIT KA7 mb and a 650 slotA cpu. It will boot up to the first stage of the bootup screen and sometimes make it past showing the memory is ok to showing the HDD and showing cmos checksum error and if I am lucky I will hit the F1 key to continue to load windows but will not detect a mouse. Most of the time the keyboard will not respond when I hit a key when I first turn it on. But only if I turn it on and off over and over. I have tried a different cpu, different memory, cleared the cmos.... And I can't get into the bios. Could it be the battery? I will try that. I know, most of you will say why not a newer computer? Well this one is not mine, and it is someone's who can not upgrade to a more recent model. Thanks for any help. james

Hey Dude,
I see you have several post counts, not a complete noob, so I'm surprised you aren't a bit more familiar with the rules around here. Limit your questions about one subject to ONE post, not two. It only stands to reason that when someone wants to try to help, which post are they supposed to respond to? It becomes very confusing to all and because of that you may not get any help at all.
When you reset the CMOS do you have the power unpluged? It's important that you do to get a good dump. But I would say it's
probably a RAM problem and I would try some different to see if that helps.

Sorry about that I thought I wanted to add something more to post and tried to stop it, guess I wasn't fast enough. I will delete one of them.

Yes I did disconnect the power before clearing cmos. Have tried all kinds of memory, (brands that is). Maybe it is just time to put this mb to rest. Thanks

Perhaps the PSU is weak.. but it does sound like the mobo is flaky.

You are using the delete key to try to get to the bios? Turn on the machine and then hold down the delete key until it starts beeping at you!

Take a close look at the capacitors on that board, especially around the cpu. Those are notorious for the "leaky cap syndrome". If they are buldging or leaking, it's time for an RMA. Abit charges $25 to fix it if I recall correctly. Good luck

Yes, I had leaky caps once myself on an Abit board, the tops of the caps were all bulging up slightly, board would not boot.
