Battlefield...ERGGGH!

Dang, why is this game so stubborn to install and get running properly?!

I've got a GF4ti and a 1.4ghz Tbird, 512mb DDR. Nothing tweaked, all running stock on a fresh format and install of 98SE. It locks up, crashes to the desktop, gets halfway loading a map, won't connect to servers...all the same crap I had the last time I installed it, but I don't know what happened that it started running for me with consistancy. I've downloaded and installed the latest patch, reinstalled Desert Combat....what the heck do I need to do?

do you have the latest video drivers? try installing System Mechanic 4 (the demo) or a program like it to clean up the registry and stuff. i have found that by cleaning the registry, if i had problems...that seems to fix it....weird...but it works sometimes.

Well, I installed the latest 4 in 1 drivers, and the 40.72 drivers.

Desert Combat loaded and then crashed when opening the loaded map to the desktop.

However, I did get to play Bocage online! W00t! I might have some luck reinstalling DX8.1 after the install of BF1942.....

What about DX9? I'm not running a DX9 card and it isn't a DX9 game, but is the new DX worth installing?
