Outlook 2000 automatically deletes messages when I move them to a folder..arrrggghhh!

Anyone know how to stop Outlook from automatically deleting messages when they are moved from Inbox to another folder MANUALLY, ie drag and drop...

There are no rules set up, no filters, etc etc.

There doesn't seem to be a logical reason for this at all...

I created a new folder, identical properties to other folders in Inbox, but when I move messages into it they just disappear - don't even sit there for a flash of a second, and they are not in the deleted folder either.

DOes anyone know a fix / heard of a virus that does this?

Thanks.

Maybe...maybe they are found in a different folder I'm sure it is in your computer and i wouldn't think it was a virus.

p/s: sorry for this little help i dont use outlook express, though I have one in my computer. My sisters using it and I think shes been doing like u did. I think, instead of drag and drop, you should copy and paste the email on to a new folder with names on it.

have you tried to delete your profile and re-create it?

Maybe try it from another machine altogether

as six said, is this from a POP server, or are you connecting to an exchange server?

It's a work Exchange Server and we use whats called JetStream - basically a broadband connection.

Files are definately NOT in another folder...I've searched high and low...even done the copy and paste routine - you paste into the folder when its open and nothing appears to happen - you go back to the original folder and the message has vanished.

Whole folders are now empty...that's why I was thinking along the lines of a virus.

Cheers,

Craig

Does your email reside on the exchange server or in a .pst file?

Are you connected toa PST?
Maybe a server side rule that is being applied but stupid Outlook isn't displaying it correctly. Try connecting from another machine and see if that helps.
Preferrably somewhere your profile doesn't exist yet.

Can you see exchange admin?
I'm not familiar with Exchange 2000, but in Exchange 5.5 you can see howmany items are in your mailbox total. Check it before you move, and after.

Also try http://housecall.antivirus.com/ house call, its a free online virus scanner

or maybe install AVG free antivirus software.

Mail is kept on server, not .PST - I'll try seeing the number of files and see if it changes.

I've opened this profile on 3 PC's now, all have same problem which means obviously something with the Profile, but not willing to delete and reconstitute yet as it is a sales persons emails and he has quite a bit of info!

worst case scenario, you can burn all the info to a PST.. whack the mailbox and recreate the mailbox manually.

Sucks, but so does exchange
kidding! I have to use it everyday lol

Your missing email messages

I had a time figuring this one out when it happened to me. The emails were not actually being deleted, but rather hidden because a filter had accidently been turned on. Try this:

To Remove a filter
On the View menu, point to Current View, and then click Customize Current View.
Click Filter.
In the lower-right corner, click Clear All.

I hope this helps!
