Over heat like a mother ******

My CPU is stating it is over 62 deg@Celcius, and 143 deg F at IDLE.

I just installed ANOTHER fan in my system. Now it has a total of 7 Fans.

2 Case fans, 1 forward (pushing air to the rear), and 1 at the back (pushing air out).

2 Optional fans, 1 drive bay deck (Three little fans, pushing air to the rear), and 1 PCI slot fan (pushing air out).

1 Video card fan, (Radeon Pro 9800)

1 CPU Fan (rated for an XP 3200+)

1 Extra fan (I just installed), that hovers over the video & sound card, blowing air towards the mother board.

And of course, the Power supply fan (Doesn`t count).

Why would my temperature be so high? I have thermal compound on the CPU core, and swabbed the whole thing with alcohol before installation. It`s a KTV600 mobo, 1 Gb PC3200 RAM, with a Barton XP 2800+, Radeon Pro 9800.

The mobo is at 37 deg Celcius, and 98 deg F.

Anybody know any suggestions get the thing cooled down?

with cooling it could be any number of things. ambient air temp is very imprtant as well as good air flow around the outside of the case as well as the inside. 37*c for a mobo temp seems pretty high. Even though you have all those fans you might be causing more harm than good. Creatiog dead areas that don't allow good air movement. From what I see you only have 3 actual fans that are doing any good. The 1 intake and 2 outtake {1 of those being a slot fan} you might need more intake air

It sounds like one of 2 things. 1 the probes are reading WAY off, or 2 the heatsink is not properly mounted, ie making bad contact with the CPU.

I would check the latter to be sure first. As the HS rated for the 3200+ shouldnt have a problem, especially with all the extra cooling.

is this a new build?
did you a thermal compound like artic silver 3?
is you h/s fan workin?
is you h/s seated correctly?
if you can take off your side pannel of dose it help?
what is the temp in your room?

Some considerations:
1. Mobo (case) temp of 37°C is way too hot... mine rarely goes above 30°C
2. What brand/model heat sink? You have a T° delta between mobo and CPU of 25°C... not bad cooling effectiveness, but not good either.
3. Is the HS's fan blowing in the correct direction for the specific design of heat sink you are using?
4. Heat sink contact surface flat and smooth? Did it need lapping?
5. Too much/too little thermal compound?
6. Heat sink not making good contact? Not parallel to cpu core's surface?
7. Re your case/mobo temps, you probably need to look at airflow and balance. You need to draw out just as much hot air as the cool air you are drawing in.
Generally a good design draws cool air from the bottom front and exhaust warm air out the back top. A top blow hole helps exhaust warm air. The side fan (blowing onto your vid card, etc.), helps bring in more cool air.
8. Is your PC located in a well-ventillated area to start with? (E.g., not inside a desk cabinet, or something like that)?

Those temps were taken with both sides of the case off. I put them back on, and they don`t change.

I have 2 fans that are acting as intakes... The drivebay, and the other case fan that`s mounted on the front. It`s pushing air to the back, where the fans (2 of em) are pushing the air out. So it shouldn`t be a circulatory problem.

Also, I don`t think that it`s a thermal temp reading problem... I had a crapload of trouble installing XP (finally got it though), and every now and then the comp will hang, or simply shut itself off.

NOW I'M CONFUSED! (Even more than before)

Just purchased a Watercooling system for the CPU. Installed it as per instructions.

Temp is still almost idential to what it was before the upgrade, at just about 60 deg Celcius. Mobo is still just over 30 deg Celcius.

??? What's going on in this system ???

At this point in time it can be two things. As mentione above the heat plate is still not making contact with the core (doubtful since you followed the instructions), the probe under the CPU is defective.

What are you using to check your temperatures?

Everything's being checked through the CMOS.

update your bios.. mine mobo said 50C until i updated it and it was 29C
