problem installing xp pro

Hi guys. I tried to install xp pro and it went fine in the beginning process such as copying the files onto the harddisk right? But when it rebooted for me and got me past the windows startup loadign screen, it brought me to the normal Setup screen for setting up windows. But then it gave me this error:

SXS.DLL: Syntax error in manifest or policy file " H:\I386\ASMS\6000\MSFT\Windows\Common\Controls\Con
trols.man" on line 0.

What could my problem be? I really need this OS bad. I'm on my backup laptop right now. Thanks.

Is this a reinstall of the OS, or the first time you;ve tried installing XP?

Yep, im' guessing so. I made a backup copy of my xp pro disk just in case i lost it. And in fact, i DID lose it.. So now i'm stuck with this corrupt xp pro disk. Also this is for a new harddrive i just got. So i would consider this a fresh install.

Oh yeah, the H drive is my 2nd partition just for the OS on my hard drive. Not the cd drive.

As long as you've got your CD key/license info, maybe you can contact MS and just buy a copy of the media (CD) for a reasonable $$$.

I know we buy corporate licenses for various software, and then buy the media (CD) seperately, and the media (only) cost in the $5 to $10 range.

I bet the Cd being copied is the reason.

Does the speed at which i burned the CD at matter? I used nero and used one of their utilities to see what speed it was burned at and it said 40x. Should i just make another copy at a much slower rate?

In one of your above posts, you mentioned you lost the original CD.

Don't know if a copy of another person's CD will take your key.

About your OS, how about reinstalling your Win XP? Thats what I did and it went fine. Your personal settings will not change a bit.
