Hello to all members. Got a question concerning which video card to purchase. I've got a budget of about $500.00 to spend and am debating between Ati 9800 pro 256mb or the Asus GeforceFX v9950 ultra 256mb. Neither of the two are absolute, if a 128mb card will do just fine. I just don't know enough about them and just would like some suggestions. I'm currently using a Geforce3 Ti 500 64mb and it isn't quite getting the job done. Any help would definetly be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Mike

Wow. Buy either one. You won't need to upgrade for a while, that's for sure. I have a Radeon 9500 Pro and haven't played a game it can't handle. I used to have a GF4 Ti4200 and it also played everything I own (Unreal 2 is about the top end of my games). Only replaced it because it didn't have dual outputs.

Welcome to TechIMO.

I'd say ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, Ultra... It will be a better buy in the long run than the nVidia GeForce FX 5900's, plus if you're looking to play games like Half-Life 2, they will do better for the money than the FX's.

Welcome to TechIMO Mike! I would also say get the Radeon. As to 128 vs. 256, we wont know for sure until HL2 comes out if 256 is worth it.

Thanks Guys for the welcome

Thanks alot for the suggestions also.
My computer specs consist of an intel 2.53ghz on an asus P4G8X
Deluxe. 1 gig of pc 2700 ram, using windows xp pro. After reading the suggestions, I did some searching and found that the 128mb version isn't that much difference in performance than the 256mb.
Definetly a difference in cost To be honest, i've been a nvidia user for years and now am making the change. Hope its for the better. One more thing, are the drivers for the 9800 pro fairly good? Thanks again for the welcome guys. Mike
