need help with nic

So this just started happening yesterday. When i boot up, my network card wont renew its ip address from my home router. I tested one of my other computers to see if it's a problem with the home router, but that computer was able to renew its dhcp address just fine. With this computer, only way i can get ip address, is setup a static ip address, reboot, then switch it to dhcp and then it renews fine. This is really weird. Anyone heard of this problem? Also, I have tried re-installing my nic drivers, with different versions of the driver, and still no luck.

What is your Operating System?

If you have Windows 2000/XP, check your Event Logs and see what the error actually is. It might shed some light on the situation.

k, it looks as i've fixed the problem. I went into services, and dhcp and some other automatic startup services weren't started. This is weird, cause i know if a service fails to startup, that it is displayed in event viewer which it wasn't. Hmmm

If they were automatic and failed to start they will log a message in the system log.

Now, if they are automatic and die after starting, or something stops them, thats another story, but it will still log a message.

Something is missing here. Pieces just don't add up.

Here is what I get in event viewer when I stop it:

The DHCP Client service entered the stopped state.
